Coming From
Abroad
By air:
- London has four main airports:
1. Heathrow (west)
2. Gatwick (south)
3. Stansted (north-east)
4. Luton (north)
- Heathrow is closest and most convenient
for Dhamma Dipa.
- Flights to Stansted and Luton are usually
less expensive, although the extra distance will add a few
hours to your journey.
- Airports at Birmingham,
Bristol and Cardiff are
also within easy reach of Dhamma Dipa.
- Birmingham airport has its own railway station –
Birmingham International Station – from which
you can catch a train to Hereford. For the quickest
journey time, change at Birmingham New Street for a
direct train service to Hereford.
- Bristol airport is linked to Bristol Temple Meads
railway station by an express coach service which leaves
every 20 minutes. From Bristol Temple Meads there are
hourly trains to Hereford via Newport.
- Cardiff airport: a rail link connects Rhoose Cardiff
airport station to Cardiff Central station. Trains run
hourly Monday to Saturday and two hourly on Sundays.
There is a shuttle bus service (free to passengers with
a valid train ticket) which meets every train to carry
passengers on the short journey to the airport terminal.
There are regular trains from Cardiff Central to Hereford.
Coach from the London airports:
- The simplest and cheapest way to get to
Dhamma Dipa is by coach.
- Please note: a return ticket costs little
more than a single, and considerably less than two singles
each way.
- Heathrow Central Bus Station is in the
centre of the airport, between Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and
above the Underground railway station. From Terminal 4 there
is a free transfer bus.
- At Gatwick and Stansted the coach departure
and information points are clearly signed.
Train from the London airports:
- Fast trains
also link each of the airports with central London, leaving
every 15 minutes during the day.
- From Gatwick there are also slower (and
cheaper) services to London and Brighton, and trains to
other parts of the country avoiding London.
By train:
- Eurostar trains from Europe arrive in London
at St Pancras station.
- To get from St Pancras to Victoria coach
station, take the underground (Victoria Line) to Victoria
railway station. Note that the coach station
is about 10 minutes walk south of the railway station along
Buckingham Palace Road.
- Trains for Hereford leave from Paddington
railway station.
By coach:
- Coaches via Eurostar trains arrive at St
Pancras station

- Other coaches from Europe arrive at Victoria
coach station
- From Victoria coach station you can catch
a coach
to Dhamma Dipa.
Return journey:
- It is sometimes possible to get a lift
by car with other students.
- Public transport for courses ending during
the week or on a Saturday is reasonably good.
- On Sundays there is a
coach leaving from Ross on Wye at 10.10, arrives at Heathrow
Airport at about 13.30.
